Decades of successful progress and growth exhausted the space available to Montreat College on its main campus. A highly successful athletic program and new graduate studies increased demands for new facilities and property for expansion. A unique opportunity effectively to triple the size of the college campus developed when a nearby 72-acre conference center, "In the Oaks," became available, which was purchased by the college in 2001. An additional 17 acres were purchased in 2004.

The Black Mountain Campus is a wooded property of level spaces and rolling hills located three miles from the main campus in the historic town of Black Mountain. The campus borders Interstate 40 and Highway 70 (get directions or a printer-friendly campus map [PDF]).

Manor HouseAmong a half dozen significant structures is the 24,400 square foot “Manor House,” built in 1920 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Originally the summer home of electrical industrialist F. S. Terry, the Manor House contains bedrooms, meeting areas, and service facilities, including an indoor pool and gymnasium. At present the Manor House provides space for classrooms, a computer lab, and offices for faculty in the Education Department.

A second key facility of 6,640 square feet was built in 1977; the "Black Mountain Administrative Center" provides office space for faculty and staff and classrooms for the School of Professional and Adult Studies. (For School of Professional and Adult Studies admissions in Black Mountain, call toll-free 1-800-806-2777.)

The Roxy Hines Memorial Softball Park and the Cavalier soccer field are also located at the Black Mountain Campus.
