Dr. Dan Struble's speeches reflect his vision for Montreat College and portray a summary of the actions he has taken to lead Montreat into a new era of growth and service. Below is a list of speeches available for you to read, along with an actual quoted thesis from each.

  • Inaugural Address 2004 -- How then do we serve together? How do we come together in our different roles, with our varied gifts, and from our dispersed locations to serve like one, with one great purpose, like minds, and coordinated efforts? How do we demonstrate our common ownership and responsibility for the future?
  • Convocation Spring 05 -- Therefore it is important for institutions to periodically review their commitment to their mission, vision, and values and to restate them if doing so clarifies and renews the purpose and energies of those who love the college. This is what we have done in the strategic planning process so many of you helped out in.
  • Convocation Fall 06 -- How to Have a Great Time and Get a Fantastic Education - Alright, so now you’re wondering “how do I take control of my inner experience so I can have a great time”; and the faculty is wondering “how does this result in a fantastic education.”
  • Convocation Spring 07 -- Honey, I Shrunk the World! - In a knowledge economy, what we know, who we know, and our ability to make creative connections between what we know and who we know are vitally important. Also, because our context is constantly and rapidly changing, we can never rest on what and who we already know.
  • Convocation Fall 07 -- Thinking Christianly - I believe that the American way is increasingly out of sync with Christian values because too few Christians know how to “think Christianly.” That is, too few of us know what the Bible teaches, and even fewer have figured out how to apply that knowledge to the many ideas and daily situations we encounter.
  • Opening Spring 2008 -- Is it reasonable to think Christianly? - The [secularization] of higher education is so nearly complete that colleges and universities, like Montreat, that are trying to integrate faith and learning are now a tiny fraction of the educational world.... These colleges are struggling to communicate what it really means to integrate faith and learning in a world that is more interested in job preparation than in assuring that people live integrated, meaningful lives, consistent with their faith.
