Join us on May 8th for the Montreat College's
First Annual Creative Writing Festival!
Due to the success of his recently published novel--One Second After--Dr. Bill Forstchen will be out of town on a book tour and will not present an address at lunch. As the day is already full with workshops, lunch will be a good time for conference participants to socialize and discuss writerly topics in small groups.
Parking: School Buses--look for signs that will direct you to the Walkup Parking lot right at the entrance ot the campus. This is the drop-off point for students and teachers. Buses will then return and park in the lot at the Montreat Gate entrance. Drivers, please request a shuttle back to campus if you would like to return to Montreat College campus.
Cars: Look for signs directing you to parking. Parking is available throughout campus--along Lake Susan, near Gaither chapel, at the lot beside Chapel of the Prodigal, at the lot behind the Library, and at the lots on Geneva road. Please ask the officer at the lower "Walk-up" parking lot at the campus entrance, student helpers, or pull up alongside the Chapel of the Prodigal and ask for assistance at the Creative Writing Festival Registration tables if you are having difficulty finding parking.
Campus map: Go to Montreat home page to About Montreat then to Montreat Campus to find a printable version of the Campus Map.
Registration: Tables will be set up at the Chapel of the Prodigal (look for signs). Participants will register here--cash and checks only for fees--payable to Montreat College. Participants will receive a name tag and a folder containing the Festival schedule, a campus map, a pen, and a take-home Writer's Notebook at registration. The cost of the Creative Writing Festival is $15.00 for participants. This covers all workshops, a water bottle and small snack, and lunch (hot dogs and hamburgers with a vegan option). There is no cost for teachers.
Suggestions: Wear comfy shoes for walking around Montreat's beautiful campus and bring a jacket. Pens and paper for note-taking are also a good idea. Books written by Festival authors will be available for sale in the Montreat College Bookstore. You may request book signings when authors are available throughout the Festival.
Please feel free to e-mail kangle@montreat.edu if you have any remaining questions. We're looking forward to meeting you on May 8th.

Take a workshop in your favorite genre, or try out a new genre. Meet and ask questions of published authors. Get inspired by our beautiful campus. Be the first to sign up for our limited editing sessions with writing experts. Enter our Festival's Writing Contest. Don't forget to register at this site, and we'll see you on May 8th!
Submissions Guidelines: We are looking for unpublished, original poetry, fiction, and non-fiction that reflects what is real and true, even when it is not pretty or nice. Life can be difficult, wonderful, scary, joyful, frustrating and beautiful; good writing reflects this. The primary measuring stick for good writing must be the ability to expose what is real, whether painful or delightful, and to express it eloquently. We welcome all quality writing. |
