Dr. Robert Boer joined the Montreat College faculty in 2002, and serves as the Director of Music Programs and Assistant Professor of Music. He received his Bachelor of Christian Studies degree from Redeemer College in Ancaster, Ontario (1992); the Master of Music degree in choral conducting from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa (1996); and the Doctor of Musical Arts in choral conducting from the University of Iowa (2004). He directs the Ambassadors Choir (see II Corinthians 5:20) and Chamber Choir, and teaches Applied Voice, Diction for Singers, Music in Worship, Survey of Musical Styles, Worship Arts Survey, Church Music Leadership, and more.
He resides in Black Mountain with his wife Keri and his daughter Emily. They are members of Montreat Presbyterian Church (EPC), where he previously has served as interim Director of Music and Worship, and occasionally sings or plays organ and piano. He endured surgery on a brain tumor in March 2006, and continually sees the amazing majesty of the Lord in how He has surrounded Rob and his family with His amazing grace and love. Rob seeks to permeate his teaching ministry with Soli Deo Gloria: “to God alone be the glory.”
