Environmental Studies Major Course Requirements

Within the ES major:
-
You can concentrate in a field studies or pre-professional track.
-
You have the opportunity to train in several environmental education curricula and earn North Carolina State Certification in Environmental Education.
1. Courses required for general education core, including Biology 101, 102, Math 214, and Interdisciplinary Studies 202 (50 hours).
2. Required courses in the major (32.5 hours):
Biology 201 (4), 406 (3)
Chemistry 201 (4), 202 (4)
Environmental Studies 200 (3), 206 (4), 230 (0.5), 301 (4), 302 (2), 330 (0.5), 403 (3), 430 (0.5)
3. Complete one of the following concentrations:
A. Preprofessional Concentration* (30 hours)
B. Field Studies Concentration
(30 hours)
C. Special Emphasis (min. 5 courses and 18 hours)
4. General electives (to be selected in consultation with the advisor) to bring total to 126 semester hours. Refer to “Requirements for Baccalaureate Degrees” in the Catalog for more information.
5. All environmental studies majors are required to take the Major Field Test (MFT) in their discipline prior to graduation.
