Volleyball Falls Twice Over the Weekend

The Montreat Cavaliers volleyball team traveled this weekend for conference play, first at Covenant College on Friday and then at Bryan College on Saturday. Both matches ended after three games, as Montreat could not get the momentum swung in their direction. Coach Mooberry on the Covenant match, "We really struggled as a team passing tonight against Covenant, which made it hard to run an effective offense. Covenant has a good program, some strong hitters and quick defense. We needed to play well tonight to beat Covenant, but our intensity and communication was also not what it needed to be. My hope is that we will be able to step up our game when they come visit us at Montreat and play with the intensity, communication, and solid skills to beat them."

Coach Mooberry on the Bryan match, “We had a slow start against Bryan; dropping the first two games pretty quickly.  The last game the girls really started to step up and play, taking Bryan to 27 – 29.  Bryan just outplayed us, we had 29 kills for the match and 19 errors and Bryan had 48 kills and only 9 errors. We had more digs but struggled to put the ball away.  Where Bryan had 9 blocks we only had one. Bryan is a tough team and we will look to improve and start playing hard from the beginning when we see them again.”

The Lady Cavaliers will compete at home twice this week in AAC competition. Tonight, they will take on Bluefield in a 6:30pm start. Then on Thursday, The Lady Cavs will host King, in big AAC rivalry match, starting at 6:30pm. This will be the volleyball team’s “Blue & Gold” day and ALL STUDENTS ATHLETES WILL BE REQUIRED TO ATTEND!
