Elementary Education at Montreat College
The Elementary Education program is built upon a Christian world view and is designed to identify and equip those whom the Lord is calling to be public or private school educators. The call to teach is the call to devote oneself to a life of rich service to children and their families. Never has the need for committed and godly educators been greater in our state, our nation or the world. Never has the cry for light and life been louder.
Today's educator must possess an insatiable desire to inform and inspire school-age children as well as the intellect to meet and exceed any number of expectations placed upon them each and every day. If you believe the Lord is calling you to pursue this degree, please continue to seek wisdom and counsel. The faculty is committed to helping you determine if, in fact, this great and awesome call has been placed upon your life and would be pleased to discuss this with you.
Our program offers a Bachelor of Arts or Science degree in Elementary Education as well as the opportunity to pursue a Class A North Carolina teaching license.

|
John Gibson, Adjunct Faculty with the Montreat College Elementary Education Department, was named North Carolina's Physical Education Teacher of the Year for 2008/2009. John teaches physical education at Black Mountain Primary School as well as the physical education course in the undergraduate program here at Montreat.
John has taught for 21 years. Beyond the students who thoroughly enjoy P.E. with John, his colleagues see in him an enthusiastic, committed educator who devotes himself "as unto the Lord" each day. Congratulations, John.
