We offer the Bachelor of Music in Performance, with emphases in Voice, Piano, and Organ, the Bachelor of Arts in Music Business, and a Minor in Music.
Whom do I contact if I (or someone I know) might be interested in performing in the Friends of Music Chapel Vespers Series or Showcase Series?
You need to contact the Friends of Music Program Committee Chair. Call the Music Office at 828-669-8012, ext. 3771 and leave a message, and we will forward your message to our current Program Chair.
When is the next musical performance at Montreat College?
Check our complete schedule.
When is the Chapel Vespers performance?
Chapel Vespers series performances are always scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on Sundays. Please check our schedule for upcoming performance dates.
Where can I park when I attend Montreat College music events?
There are several options:
For events in the Chapel of the Prodigal, there will frequently be space in the parking lot across the street (Appalachian Way) off of Lookout Road. If this lot is full, overflow parking is usually available along Appalachian Way across from the Library or in the lot behind the Library.
For events in Gaither Hall, there is a small parking lot in the rear of Gaither Hall; this can be accessed by turning left onto Geneva Place from Appalachian Way and then left into the lot. If this lot is full, there are usually more spaces along Geneva Place and plenty of parking in the gravel lot at the end of Geneva Place. There are also spaces along Appalachian Way and behind the Library.
How much does it cost to attend a Friends of Music or Music Program performance at Montreat College?
Usually nothing! With the exception of special fundraiser events, which may be ticketed, our normal policy is for all of our performances to be open to the public without charge. We can only afford to do this, however, through the generous donations and gifts of our friends. We therefore suggest, but do not require, a donation of $5 per person or an annual household membership of $25 or more in the Friends of Music for the Chapel Vespers and Showcase Series events.
Why the changed name from "Music Department" to "Fine Arts Department"?
Due to a recent reorganization, the music, art, and theatre/communications academic programs and faculty were consolidated into a single new department. The name selected was intended to cover the breadth of academic disciplines taught. The Music program at Montreat College continues in spite of this reorganization and name change.
How can I help the Montreat College music program?
There are several ways that you can help: 1) Become a member of the Montreat College Friends of Music; 2) Consider volunteering to help; 3) Help underwrite one of our special projects; 4) Attend our performances; 5) Tell prospective students about Montreat College's music program and encourage them to attend. |
