Dr. Horatio A. Hernandez

Horacio A. Hernandez, M.A. and Ph.D. (State University of New York at Albany) is originally from the Dominican Republic. His major field of concentration is Contemporary Spanish American literature, and he completed his dissertation in Caribbean literature, specifically on the metaphysical poetry of Manuel Del Cabral. In addition to the above degrees, he holds a minor in Spanish linguistics, and is interested in both peninsular and Latin American literature. His undergraduate studies were completed in the Dominican Republic at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo. Before coming to USA, Horacio worked for ten years as a Peace Corps trainer and coordinator.
Dr. Hernández has been at Montreat College since 2003 and is professor of Spanish. In 1991, he published his first book: Divagaciones poéticas. Poemario. Santo Domingo: Editora Universitaria, UASD, and he is currently working on two writing projects: a novel and a collection of short stories.
Besides teaching Elementary and Intermediate Spanish courses, Dr. Hernández also teaches Advance Conversation and Composition, and two survey courses on Spanish American and Peninsular literature. He attends Swannanoa Valley Presbyterian Church, where he is a deacon; over the past four years he also served as a deacon for a Hispanic Church in Asheville, NC. |
