Lieutenant Colonel Walters retired from the Army after a 22-year career which included various command and staff assignments including:  Platoon Leader, 82nd Airborne; Commander, C Troop, 7th Cavalry;  Commander Recruiting Battalion;  Cheif Logistics Officer, 3d Squadron, 7th Calvary; Chief Resource Management and Chief Combat Training Centers Division, Training and Doctrine Command; Batalion Operations and Executive Officer, 3d Battalion, 64th rmor; and Assistant Professor of Military Science at Wake Forest University.

He received a Master's Degree from Central Michigan University in 1987, and is a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College.  His personal awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal (3d award) and the Army Commendation Medal (4th award).

While a student at Montreat-Anderson, Dave Walters was instrumental in starting men's soccer as a club team.  He worked with the administration in hiring a coach, ordering uniforms, and developing a playing schedule.  His second, and final year, at Montreat (1968-69) saw the sanctioned intercollegiate soccer match for the Cavaliers.  Walters played as a striker on this inaugural team.

Dave Walters returned to Montreat in 1993 upon his retirement from the Army and assumed the position of Director of Admissions.  He currently serves as a the faculty chair in the Business Department.  He is married to the former Jamie Davey of Miami, Florida.  They have two grown sons.  He remains one of the most loyal supporters of the Cavalier athletic department and is now commonly known as "the Voice of the Cavaliers" thanks to his his unrivaled announcing at Cavalier home sporting events.
