Baseball falls to UVa-Wise in AAC Tournament opener, 5-6 in 9th inning

Montreat lost a heart-breaker to the Cavaliers of UVa-Wise, 5-6. Montreat went on a six hit streak in the sixth inning to go up 4-2. However, UVa-Wise came charging back to tie the game at 4-4, before senior Cam Duckworth nailed a double to start the eight inning, and eventually score the go ahead run. But, with bases loaded and no outs in the ninth inning, UVa-Wise managed to score two runs to end the game and send Montreat to the lower bracket. Montreat must now play the loser of Bryan College and top-seeded Tennessee Wesleyan on Thursday, 9:00am.

Montreat Baseball swept in AAC doubleheader

Montreat College was swept in a conference doubleheader at Union College on Saturday by the scores of 3-6, 3-9. In the first game, John Shannon would take to the mound for the Cavaliers and would pitch effectively into the fourth before being pulled for freshmen Seth Blevins and Brian Greene. Shannon would record four strikeouts and surrender three earned runs. The Cavaliers would make things interesting in the third as they would tie the game on a RBI double by Jesse Wise that would plate Brent Ashbaugh but that would be about as close as things would come in the first game as the Bulldogs would hit three solo homeruns in the game making the difference.
