Cavaliers drop AAC contest to King College

Led by 6-5 senior guard Thomas Nicholson (Troutman, NC), Montreat dropped a tough contest against one of the top teams in the AAC, King College, 58-76. The loss gives the Cavaliers a 5-10 overall record, but still leaves them one game back in the AAC polls, with a 3-2 conference record. Nicholson had 27 points on the night. One of the lopsided stats for the night was once again rebounding; the Cavs were outrebounded 47-28 by the Tornadoes. Though both teams didn't have their best night of shooting percentage, King College edged Montreat out 40% to 37%. Montreat was only 6-for-11 from the stripe, while King College shot 81% (17-for-21).

The Cavaliers however remain hopeful and within striking distance in the AAC.  Milligan and Bluefield College lead the AAC with a conference record of 4-1, while King, Virginia Intermont, and Tennessee Wesleyan are tied for second along with Montreat at 3-2.

"Obviously, we didn't shoot the ball all that well," said first year assistant coach Pat Hanlon, "we got outrebounded once again.  The game was much closer than the final score though.  It seemed like we were just a shot away from keeping the deficit to single digits, but as we inched closer, they seem to come back and hit another big shot on us.  We fell behind early, and never quite got back into it."

Montreat will continue its AAC play by rolling into UVA-Wise this Saturday at 6:00pm.  UVA-Wise is 6-10 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
