Cavaliers fall to a reluctant Bluefield College

Montreat put on a display of determination in front of their loyal home crowd at McAlister Gymnasium but in the end, Bluefield handed Montreat its first home lose of the season, 109-105. Bluefield entered the game as the #1 ranked team in the AAC, leading the nation in scoring average (94 points per game). The Cavaliers however put up their best offensive night hitting 53% from the field (35-for-66) and 12-for-20 from 3-point range, 10-of-14 coming in the second half. Leading the way for Montreat was this week’s AAC player of the week, MJ Njoku. Njoku was 9-for-12 from the field with 21 points including eight rebounds. Also scoring 21 points for the Cavaliers was Kinard Barnett; he also had four rebounds and was 5-of-8 from the floor, including a great night from the free-throw line, 9-of-11.

Montreat put up great numbers all around as they outrebounded a physical and big Bluefield line-up. 36-31.  After going into the locker room down one point (45-44), Montreat fed off of its home crowd and gave Bluefield a solid night of defensive basketball.  Aaron Collazo also had 20 points for the night, hitting 4-of-6 from long range.  The Cavaliers now fall to 6-12 overall and 4-4 in the AAC race.

Montreat will now hit the road against Milligan College this Tuesday, January 22.
