Montreat falls in final minute to Union College
Montreat suffered a heartbreaking last minute loss to Union College on Saturday, 73-74. The Cavaliers held on to a single digit lead going into the final minutes of the game, though it proved to not be enough, as Union's Aaron Dunaway delivered the final 3-point blow with less than 10 seconds remaining. "It was a heartbreaking loss," said Coach Bill Robinson, "we were just one stop away from winning a big game on the road. I thought our small lead there at the end would be enough, but again, we didn't get one of those important stops when we needed to." Montreat is now 9-13 and 6-5 in the AAC. Once again leading Montreat against the Bulldogs of Union College was MJ Njoku. He dished in 22 points off of 7-of-10 from the floor and 8-of-9 from the stripe.
Though hampered by the loss of Senior leader Thomas Nicholson (knee injury), Coach Robinson has still managed to create a driving force from his young Cavaliers. They have steadily crept up the AAC rankings, and they're determined to continue to play Montreat basketball as they face eight remaining and important AAC games.
They hit the road this Saturday as they face off against Bryan College (6:00pm).
