The Cavaliers have begun their 2007 Cross Country season under the new leadership of Coach Jose Larios. This is his first season at the helm of Montreat’s program, which opened its season on August 31st at the Western Carolina Cross Country Invitational.
The men’s team is in a very similar situation as the women's program. Larios inherits two returning runners in Justin Edwards and Josh Woodward. Newcomers include Josh Oskenvad, Pete Taylor, and Ben Hall. Hall comes as a highly coveted runner from Polk County High School. Larios says, “Ben has great talent and is very committed to improving. I am really excited about his leadership. Both Justin and Josh have demonstrated great leadership already during pre-season.”
Coach Larios will be working diligently to recruit future student-athletes to Montreat College. The cross country schedule has been created to give Montreat’s runners the experience they need to run at a higher level with meets such as the Furman Invitational and The Greater Louisville Classic.
“I am committed to making the Montreat program a conference contender in the next couple of seasons. Our current team is laying the groundwork for what is to come. I am really excited to see so many of our runners already performing better through a consistent, diligent training program,” says Larios.
