Bishop garners AAC Track Athlete of the Week!
For her 2nd place finish in the women's division of the Myrtle Beach Half-Marathon, Talisa Bishop (Jr., Interlachen, Fl) has been selected as the AAC Female Track Athlete of the Week. Out of nearly 3,000 runners, Talisa finished 50th overall. Her official time of 1:26.59 was an "A" national qualifying standard; in fact, it was nearly six minutes faster than the qualifying standard (1:33). Her performance earned her the right to participate at this year's NAIA National Outdoor Track & Field Championship, in St. Louis, MO, May 22-24. "This is a great honor for Talisa," said Coach Larios. "She's had a few sub-par races this spring so far, so it was great to see her bounce back and run such a tremendous race. She has set a high goal for herself this year in the marathon, and this small recognition is a simple reminder that she is doing what she needs to do to get there."
The team will be in action again this week in the Montreat Vs. UVA-Wise Dual Distance Classic at Madison High School this Friday at 3:30pm. The team will be contesting a few mid-distance and distance events in hopes of hitting an indoor championship qualifying standard.
"We are sort of using this as a last chance meet for indoor," said Larios, "though we're really working toward the outdoor season."
