MOUNT AIRY – Josh Horton of White Plains Christian School has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Cavaliers.
Horton, a 6-1, 175-pound guard from Mount Airy averaged 26.0 points, 11.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game as a senior. Horton led the Patriots to a 14-3 record and was named First Team All-State as a junior and a senior. He also made First Team All-State in baseball.
The signing took place at White Plains Christian School Gymnasium in a packed house of several hundred ecstatic fans, students, friends, family members, and teammates.
“It was obviously a big day for White Plains Christian School, but it was a great day for Montreat College,” said Bill Robinson. “Josh is not only an excellent addition to our program, but will be an asset to our college community…I am thrilled at the prospect of working with such a terrific young man.”
Horton will be developed in Montreat’s fledgling Junior Varsity program. Entering its third year, the program has already developed eight players that have gone on to play at the varsity level.
Horton turned down an offer from NCAA Division II Catawba for the chance to wear Blue and Gold. He becomes the second Patriot to join the Cavs. Former high school teammate Bradford Roberson also plays junior varsity basketball for Montreat.
