With free pizzas going out to any Montreat fan that brought out home-made noisemakers, the Cavs were urged on by drums, garbage lids, and even upside down kayak-beatings. “The crowd support all year has not gone unnoticed. Our guys realize the support and it has played a major role. We really noticed our fan support while at the King College game… we were playing on the road and our fans were louder than their home crowd,” boasted Combs. With the win, the entire Montreat community can celebrate along with the Cavaliers for their hard earned, first-ever AAC Championship.
The win also clinches Montreat as one of the four NAIA Region XII births. The AAC Conference tournament’s first round will be played at Montreat next Tuesday; the Cavs’ opponent and time of game has yet to be announced. Montreat is now 13-3-1 overall and finished with an AAC record of 6-1.
