| The Cavalier Men's Soccer program took another step in the right direction in 2006! Coming off a 7-10-1 campaign from the year before, the Cavaliers posted the best record in school history in ’06 by going 15-4-1. There were a few first for Montreat this season finishing second in the conference, beating nationally ranked Virginia Intermont, and beating a Division 1 opponent High Point University (High Point, North Carolina). Montreat also finished the year by being ranked second in the region and were two wins away from going to the national tournament. Strong play from incoming freshman and senior leadership really paved the way for this monumental season. This season has really got us focused and excited about next year, said Head Coach Michael Combs. The Cavaliers also produced their third “Freshman Player of the Year” in four years, Howard Fisher (Kingston, Jamaica). The Cavaliers produced six all-conference players Delbert Dailey (1st Team, Dominica) and Sherman Gardner (1st Team, Trinidad & Tobago), Michael Combs (2nd Team, Hickory North Carolina) and Howard Fisher (2nd Team, Kingston, Jamaica), and Abdul Bangura (College Park, Georgia) and Chad Britts (Clearwater, Florida) made 3rd team all conference. Head Coach Michael Combs believes that with an already focused group and a strong recruiting class the Cavaliers will be ready for the rigors of conference play and a potential national championship run next season. |
