The 2006 soccer season was wonderful in several respects. With half the team being freshman this season it was very important to develop good team chemistry from the beginning. Coming to school two weeks before the rest of the students arrive helped the team draw closer to one another. "What makes a strong team is how players feel about each other and with this team they have learned to care for one another in a way I have seen few teams do" stated Coach Woerner. "they truly enjoy spending time with each other on and off the field, and when it is all-said-and-done their friendships are what truly matters."
One highlight was Amanda Solesbee (Junior, Hickory, NC) scoring a team high 22 goals and 11 assists:
ranks 2nd all-time in Montreat College season season scoring: 22 goals
tied school record for most Assists in a single season: 11
set school record for most single season points: 55
She was instrumental in the offense of the Lady Cavaliers where she scored and/or had an assist in almost every game this season.
Two seniors, Erin Rodriguez (Carlson) and Danielle Jordan (team captain) finished their soccer careers at Montreat by playing every minute of every game the last two years. Their leadership was instrumental for the success the team has experienced this year. Their hard work, game experience, and reaching out to the new players helped the team become stronger on and off the field. Danielle Jordan (Elementary Education major) and Erin Rodriguez (Outdoor Education Major) will graduate this coming spring (07).
With only two players graduating this year, we are excited for next season as there is a fantastic group of student-athletes returning for next year. They work well with each other and have a tremendous desire to improve and become a stronger team.
