Polk County High School Senior Kim Staley Signs Letter of Intent to Play Basketball at Montreat Coll

With her family, teammates and coaches present, Polk County High School senior Kim Staley signed her official letter of intent to play with Montreat College’s Lady Cavaliers basketball team on Friday, March 30, 2007, in the media center at Polk County High School.

“We are definitely proud of Kim and look forward to her college athletic experience,” said her father Billy Staley.

Head Coach for Montreat College’s Lady Cavaliers Summer Stout is also looking forward to Staley’s college career. “We feel very blessed to have Kim decide on Montreat,” says Stout.

“She will have an immediate impact on and off the court,” Stout added commenting on Staley’s strong playing ability and positive personality.

“It is always nice to see a player set a goal and achieve it,” says Chris Mintz, Polk County High School women’s basketball coach. “It is very satisfying to see a player work as hard as Kim and achieve her goal of playing college athletics.”

This season saw Staley scoring 330 points and averaging 11.4 points per game while making 48 percent of her field goals and 24 percent of her three point shots. She averaged 9.72 rebounds per game with 106 offensive rebounds and 176 defensive rebounds. She completed 68 blocks, 24 assists and 69 steals. Her season’s free throw average was 64 percent with Staley making 55 free throw shots of the 86 she attempted.

Since her freshman year, Staley has played 111 games and scored 1,077 points. She has averaged 9.7 points per game, making 47percent of her attempted field goals and 24 percent of her three point shots attempted. She has completed 381 offensive rebounds and 544 defensive rebounds and she has averaged 8.33 rebounds per game. She is credited with completing 387 blocks, 81 assists, 195 steals and has made 61 percent of the 272 free throws she has attempted.

Staley says that it is the memories she has made that was the best part of her time on the court during high school and she adds that making new memories in college is what she is anticipating.

Montreat College is a Christian-based, private college located in the mountains of Western North Carolina near Asheville, NC.
