Janel Cox leads the Lady Cavaliers over VIC
Within minutes of tip-off, Montreat's Lady Basketball coach Craig Jackson didn't like what he saw. The Lady Cobras of Virginia Intermont (6-15, 3-7) took a commanding 15-2 lead over Montreat. After regrouping, Montreat went into the locker room still trailing by 10 points. It was in the locker room that Jackson challenged his ladies-- and they responded. Montreat went on to win a gutsy 79-75 AAC home game. "This was a huge come-from-behind win for us," said Coach Jackson, "it was really tough going down early like we did and fighting back. This is the first time we've come back like this all season, so it was nice to do, especially at home." It was Janel Cox that led the way for the Lady Cavaliers.
Cox, the Sophomore guard from Sharpsville, IN, was perfect from the free throw line (10-for-10) in route to a 22 point night and seven assists. Chazaree Wright continued to demonstrate why she's one of the AAC's biggest threats by hitting another double-double night, 16 points and 14 rebounds; Wright also demonstrated her defensive skills by earning five steals against the Lady Cobras.
Montreat is now 11-10 overall and 4-6 in the AAC. The Lady Cavs will hit the road against Union (Tuesday, Jan. 29th) and Bryan College (Saturday, Feb. 2nd). The Union College game is scheduled for 5:30pm, while the Bryan College game will be played at 4:00pm.
