Women's basketball adds two more great recruits

Coach Jackson has been a busy man lately. With the Lady Cavaliers preparing for their final regular season game this weekend and the AAC tournament just around the corner, Jackson has been hitting the recruiting trail rather heavily, and has come home with signed letters of intent. Jackson has announced the signing of two more great recruits for the Lady Cavs basketball season next fall- Katie Watkins and Caitlin DeBoer. Earlier this week, Jackson announced his first two signees, Caitlyn Chambers and Alicia Wallace. With his goal of having 18 players next fall, Jackson is well on his way of adding the necessary depth, and talent, needed to compete for the elusive AAC crown.

Jackson is really excited about his newest additions just as much as his first two.

Caitlin DeBoer is a 5' 10" guard from Wesley Chapel High School (Wesley Chapel, FL).  She is a three-time All-Bay Conference player and a two-time Cambridge Classic Tournament MVP.  DeBoer had been heavily recruited by Troy State, Columbia, Liberty, Indiana Tech, and Eastern Kentucky.  As a junior she averaged 15 points, six rebounds, four assists, and five steals.  She is also a 1000-point scorer for Wesley Chapel.

"We are looking forward to seeing all the things Caitlin will do for our program," said an enthusiastic Jackson, "She can play one, two, or three; she's very versatile.  She has great size and strength for a guard, rebounds very well, and sees the floor just as well.  Caitlin is also an outstanding student and will be a great fit at Montreat and the future of Monreat basketball."

Katie Watkins is a 6' 1'' post player out of Wesleyan Christian Academy in High Point, North Carolina.  She commits to Montreat as a highly decorated post player for a high school that is currently ranked #2 in the state, and earlier this year were ranked #14 nationally.  Watkins is currently averaging nine points, six rebounds, and two blocks per game.  She was named to the All-Tournament Team at the 2007-2008 Wachovia Classic and Female Sportsman of the Year in 2003.  Before choosing Montreat, she was heavily recruited by Guilford, Limestone, Meredith, and Brevard College.

"We are really pleased to have signed a player and person of Katie's caliber.  She is an outstanding post player that will add much needed depth to our program.  I expect great things from her.  She's also a top tier student, with an exceptional work ethic.  These attributes, coupled with her faith, make her another great fit for Montreat College"
