The Cavaliers have begun their 2007 Cross Country season under the new leadership of Coach Jose Larios. This is his first season at the helm of Montreat’s program, which opened its season on August 31st at the Western Carolina Cross Country Invitational.
Coach Larios inherits only one returning female from last year's team, senior Megan Riser, who will be leading the way for the Lady Cavs. Newcomers to the program include Warner Southern College transfer, Talisa Bishop, who brings a tremendous amount of experience to the team having qualified for both the NAIA National Cross Country and Track & Field Championships twice. She is a multiple All-Conference/Region distance runner and should provide great leadership as she finishes her two remaining seasons as a Cavalier. Kirsten Gnagy, Elyse Gildernew, Julie Hetu, and Susannah Roach complete the women’s team. "We have a small team this year, but they will lay a great foundation for what is expected in a championship program. They have already exuded tons of character and diligence. I think Megan is a wonderful leader and I wish her a great final season here at Montreat," says Larios about his Lady Cavs.
If you would like to assist the Cross Country program in its ultimate mission of creating a nationally respected distance program, Coach Larios invites you to consider joing the Cavalier Club. The Cavalier Club is the athletic department's booster club, which sole purpose revolves around empowering our coaching staff with the opportunity to recruit and succeed at the conference, regional, and national level. Please contact Head Coach Jose Larios if you would like to know how you could become involved in the future success of the Cavalier Cross Country teams. |
