The Lady Cavalier Golf team garners national attention!

For the first time in Montreat College golf history, the women’s golf team has garnered national votes for a top 25 ranking. The December 7th ranking has Montreat listed as the 28th ranked women’s golf program in the country. “This is a testament to the development of our program. We’re really excited about this recognition. Obviously, it’s a great recruiting tool because players want to be involved with a winning program,” said Head Coach David Pennell. The Lady Cavaliers sit atop of the NAIA Region XII rankings ahead of second place Tennessee Wesleyan. Last year, Montreat’s ladies won the regional championship, and they looked poised to do so again this season.

The Lady Cavs are led by Ashley Mitcham (Waynesville, NC) and Amanda Thompson (Jackson, TN), both of which had great early season outings at the Spartanburg-Methodist Golf Tournament.  Melissa Baker (Clayton, NC) and Amber Cody (Marion, NC) also played well this fall in the Montreat College Golf Invitational; Caitlin Dempsey (Branford, FL), Courtney Brown (Mooresboro, NC), Aimee Turner (China Grove, NC), and Allie Wall (Marion, NC) round out the Cavalier squad.
