The Lady Cavs Soccer Team shuts out Brevard College, 3-0
A week after making the NAIA’s national news by nearly breaking the single-game assist record, Amanda Solesbee earned two more assists in helping the Montreat College Lady Cavs to their best season start in years. Solesbee, who earned 11 assists in last year’s entire season, has already reached 10 assists in her first five games of the year. It was Brittnye Scott, however, that put Montreat up on the scoreboard early in only the 13th minute of the game. Scott went on to earn her 7th goal of the season just two minutes after scoring her first goal of the evening. It didn’t take long for Montreat to cap off their victory against Brevard with the final goal coming in just the 17th minute of the first half; Solesbee earned the final goal of the night unassisted.
“Although the outcome went very much like I had thought, and scoring three quick goals,” admitted Head Coach Dan Woerner, “it was our defense that earned this win. We defended very well most of the game, especially late in the game when Brevard was pushing players forward in an attempt to score. I am very proud of our team and the way we are playing.”
The Lady Cavs continue their home field advantage as they host conference foe Bluefield College, next Wednesday at 3:00pm. Montreat is currently 4-1 on the season.
