(Belmont, NC) --- The Montreat College Women's Softball Team dropped a Double Header to Belmont Abbey College on Thursday, February 8, 2007.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third, when Belmont scored 4 runs. Montreat came right back in the top of the fourth inning with 3 runs, making it 4-3. Belmont scored 3 more runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings to win the game in seven innings, 7-4.

Leading the way for the Lady Cavaliers; Amber Taylor-(So. Candler, NC) was 3 for 4, scoring 1 run. Brittany Burns-(Jr. Charlotte, NC) was 2 for 4. Rachel Stowe-(Fr. Belmont, NC) was 2 for 4, with 1 RBI and pitched six innings. Amy Vogel-(So. Hays, NC) was 1 for 3, scoring 1 run. Caroline Taylor-(Fr. Arden, NC) was 1 for 3, scoring 1 run and played a great defensive game.
Mandi Pike-(So. Burlington, NC) was 1 for 3, hitting a three run home run, scoring 1 run and she had 3 RBI's. Montreat finished the game with 4 runs on 10 hits, with 8 runners left on base. Leading hitters for Belmont Abbey; Abby Threatt was 2 for 4, scoring 1 run. Katie Hobbs was 2 for 4, scoring 2 runs. Rachel Parker was 1 for 3, scoring 1 run and 1 RBI. Dani Beres was 3 for 4, scoring 1 run with 2 RBI's. Belmont scored 7 runs on 13 hits, with 8 runners left on base.
Erica Rutledge was the winning pitcher in seven innings, (1-0). Rachel Stowe from Montreat was the losing pitcher in six innings, (0-2).

The Lady Cavaliers fall to 1-2 on the season, 0-0 in the AAC.

Game 2:

In the second game of the double header, Montreat jumped out to an early lead, (1-0) in the top of the first inning. Belmont tied the game in the bottom of the second inning scoring a run to make it 1-1. The teams traded runs in the third to make it 2-2. Belmont scored 2 more runs in the bottom of the fifth and held Montreat scoreless for the rest of the game for a 4-2 win.

Leading hitters for the Lady Cavaliers; Haven Payne-(Jr. Canton, NC) was 2 for 4, pitched six innings. Brittany Burns-(Jr. Charlotte, NC) was 3 for 4, scoring 1 run, driving in 1 RBI. Erin Cross-(Fr. Morganton, NC) was 2 for 3 with 1 RBI. Mandi Pike-(So. Burlington, NC) was 1 for 3. Amy Vogel-(So. Hays, NC) was 1 for 3. Montreat had 2 runs on 12 hits with 14 runners left on base. Leading hitters for Belmont Abbey; Jessica Inman was 1 for 3, scoring 2 runs and stealing 2 bases. Katie Hobbs was 1 for 3, with 1 RBI. Angie Sowell was 1 for 1. Carrie Markham was 1 for 2. Belmont scored 4 runs on 4 hits and had 5 runners left on base.

Carrie Markham was the winning pitcher (1-0), going seven innings with 2 earned runs. Haven Payne from Montreat was the losing pitcher (1-1), going six innings with 2 earned runs.

Leading Montreat in hitting for the two game series; Brittany Burns was 5 for 8. Amber Taylor was 4 for 9. Rachel Stowe was 2 for 4.

The Lady Cavaliers fall to 1-3 overall on the season, 0-0 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. The Lady Cavs return home on Tuesday, February 13, to take on Lees McRae in a non conference double header game. Game time for the first game starts at 1:00 pm.
