Softball team has great Walt Disney World Tournament
The Lady Cavalier softball team soaked up the sun at the Walt Disney World Wide World of Sports Complex this spring break, and came home with a pair of victories. Their first game of the Disney tournament saw the Lady Cavaliers defeat Susquehanna Unversity (PA), 10-0. Montreat's Amanda Wolfe had a stellar day on the mound, pitching a complete game shut out, with five strike outs. "We were really proud of our girls," said Coach Duvall, "not only did Amanda pitch well, they all came together on the field in this victory." Offensively, Mary Montgomery and Amy Vogel both went 2-for-3 for the game.
For their second game of the tournament, Montreat faced Rochester College (MI) in a doubleheader, losing game one in extra innings, 3-2. It was Shelby English who pitched a solid game, striking out seven Rochester batters.
Game two witnessed a turn-around for Montreat, as they defeated Rochester 5-2. Brittany Burns went 1-for-3 on the day with a home run. Amber Summerow was 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.
"We had a slow start in the first game," added Duval. "The second game was much better. We truly played to our potential defensively and offensively... we were very proud of them."
Montreat takes on Mars Hill on the road today in another doubleheader; game one is scheduled to begin at 2:00pm.
