Montreat's Lady Cavalier Softball team put on a season-ending show at the 2008 AAC Softball Tournament by taking #1 seed Milligan College to 13 innings. Milligan went on to escape the upset, 2-1, but not before Montreat demonstrated what tournament play was all about. Entering the tournament seeded last (#9), Montreat came up one run shy of playing for the tournament championship, which Milligan ultimately went on to win. The Lady Cavaliers won an unprecedented three games on Thursday to earn the right to play in the semi-final game against Milligan. Led by the pitching heroics of Shelby English who pitched all but one out of the 13 innings, and by Brittany Burns who went 5-for-6 at the plate, Montreat created the great excitement that is often found in tournament play.
