Lady Cav Volleyball team drops two AAC matches

Coach Leslie Gehris’ Lady Cavaliers fell to 2-5 on the season, and 0-3 in the AAC after losing to Bryan College on Friday night and Covenant College in Saturday’s first match of a double-header. Montreat fell to Bryan College, who is currently ranked number one in the AAC, in three straight games, 18-30, 15-30, and 28-30. Leaders for the Bryan match were Alison Williams with 7 kills, Emily Piccirillo with 11 digs and Lyndsey Walls with 20 assists. According to Gehris, Montreat demonstrated great poise for the night, “Our freshman setter [Piccirillo] officially stepped in as libero in the second and third game and really helped us with serve-receive; she played really well. Seniors Stephanie Hosack really helped put the ball away and Allison Williams, our middle-blocker did a fine job defending.”

In Saturday’s morning match against Covenant, Coach Gehris said, “Our girls have moments of brilliance… we have to learn to finish off games.  We are working on this as one of our goals, though we did have improvements from last night.”  The Lady Cavs fell to Covenant in four games, 21-30, 30-28, 18-30, and 24-30.  Allison Williams led Montreat with 18 kills on the day; Danny Bowers also had a solid match with 11 kills and 19 digs.

Montreat continues their Saturday double-header with Tennessee Wesleyan College at 4:30pm.
