Lady Cavalier Volleyball wins an “energetic” five-setter against VIC

Coach Gehris was excited to play a conference game at home… VIC found out why. Montreat College once again went the distance in another five-set match in front of an enthusiastic and energetic crowd Tuesday night. “We really want to thank our fans,” praised Coach Gehris, “the energy in McAlister was amazing… it was loud and great to see everyone enjoying the game.” Montreat overtook the Lady Cobras after dropping the first game 22-30, but quickly gained momentum by taking the next two games 30-28 and 30-27. VIC won the final game 26-30; however, with McAlister’s energy behind them, the Lady Cavs took the tiebreaker 16-14.

Once again leading Montreat College in kills was freshman star Rebekah Henderson.  Henderson recorded 18 kills against the Lady Cobras, while Danny Bowers gave another solid and consistent effort with 13 kills of her own.  Ally Baumgartner, breathing emotional life into her team by recently challenging her peer’s passion and desire, also hammered 13 kills during the five-setter.

“Tonight was a fantastic team effort,” added Gehris.  Jessica Huntley gave her share of the effort by tallying 26 digs for the match, while teammates Lyndsey Wall and Emily Picirrillo shelled out 31 and 21 assists.

The win gives Montreat a 6-9 record overall and 2-4 in AAC matchups.  The Lady Cavs play Toccoa Falls this coming Friday on the road; game time is scheduled for 6:30pm.
