The Lady Cavs received plenty of fire power from freshman Allison Baumgartner, who was credited with 14 kills on the night. Defensively, Jessica Huntley had a tremendous night. “Jessica was phenomenal tonight. This was the best defensive night for her. She had 18 digs… played stellar all night,” praised Gehris of her senior defensive specialist. Danny Bowers added 14 digs of her own, while Emily Picirrillo added 13 digs and 20 assists against the Lady Tornadoes. “Overall, it was an exciting match,” said Gehris.
The Lady Cavs continue to show great promise for the future. With tremendous senior leadership, Coach Gehris must be excited about her team’s chemistry this fall. With a core of solid freshman, Montreat has already improved on last season’s record by climbing to 10-13 overall. And by witnessing the energy of Montreat’s fans last night, the Cavalier community is entirely supportive of this volleyball team’s future.
Coach Gehris will hope for a home win this Thursday against North Greenville College (7:00pm) before they embark next week on a difficult three-game AAC road trip which will consist of Milligan, Virginia Intermont, and Union College.
