Baumgartner leads Montreat Volleyball past NGU
When things aren't going well, teams tend to look toward their star players to step up and lead- the Lady Cavs, in the midst of finding a consistent winning formula, has witnessed the emergence of Ally Baumgartner's potential. "Ally pretty much carried our team tonight. She is a phenomenal athlete,” admitted Head Coach Leslie Gehris, “she is really leading this team. Today’s win was sloppy, but it was positive in the sense that certain players stepped into other roles and played well. But, right now, Ally is really getting the job done.” Behind Baumgartner, Montreat defeated North Greenville University in three straight games, 30-15, 30-20, and 30-20. Baumgartner was credited with 19 kills, 1 solo block, 1 block assist, and 4 service aces against the Crusaders (2-22 record). “We have three tough conference games on the road; so, come Monday, we have to get back to work to prepare for Milligan,” added Gehris.
Other standout performances came from Danny Bowers’ 12 digs, Jessica Huntley’s 10 digs, Lyndsey Wall’s 21 assists, and Claire Sellers’ 5 kills.
The Lady Cavs will call upon Baumgartner's continued leadership in the next few games. They are hopeful that a healthier line-up, with the return of Rebekah Henderson, the Lady Cavs will inch closer to the .500 record mark. Montreat will face off against AAC rival Milligan College on the road this Tuesday at 6:30pm. The Lady Cavs are now 11-13 overall and 4-7 in the AAC.
