Softball splits doubleheader with Union College
The Lady Cavalier softball team split yesterday's doubleheader against the AAC's pre-season ranked #1 team in Union College. Montreat fell in the first game 3-9. "We had way too many errors in the first game," said Coach Katie Duvall, "we played well, but the errors caught up to us." Amy Vogel (Jr., Hayes, NC) had a stellar defensive game at 3rd base, according to Coach Duvall. She and Erin Cross (So., Morganton, NC) also did well at the plate, going 2-for-4. In game two, Montreat held on to win 6-4. Lacy Robinson (Fr., Huntersville, NC) struck out four Union batters to hold on to the win.
"This was a great win for our girls," added Duvall, "we were pre-season picked number seven, and Union was the number one pick. We're proud of the girls for hitting the ball well today and coming back to win our first conference game of the season."
Cross, Brittany Burns (Sr., Charlotte, NC) and Amber Summerow (Jr., Lenoir, NC) all went 2-for-3 in game two.
Montreat will take a short break before getting back into conference play on March 26th, against UVA-Wise.
