DANTES Testing
DANTES are standardized exams offered by Educational Testing Service (ETS). They are additional exams that test subjects not covered through CLEP exams. As in CLEP exams, you may, if you demonstrate college-level competency in a subject area be awarded college credit toward general education credit or electives.

What is DANTES?

These are comprehensive final examinations on different subjects. They allow students to demonstrate proficiency in different subjects and gain credit hours for subject matter they already know or knowledge that they gain with appropriate study.

Who may test?

Montreat College is an open testing center. Testing is not restricted to students enrolled at Montreat College; therefore, anyone who properly registers will be allowed to test.

What is the cost?

Registration for Montreat College students is $25.00 and $30.00 for non-Montreat College registration. The registration fee is to be made payable to Montreat College and is used to defray the cost of administering the exam. The DANTES exam itself is $70.00 and should be made payable to DANTES on the day of the exam. This fee is to cover the cost of the exam itself.

How often are DANTES exams administered?

DANTES exams are administered regularly at both our Asheville-area and Charlotte campuses. To obtain the current dates, contact Student Services at your campus.

Contact your student services representative for approval before registering for any DANTES exam.

How do you register for an exam?

Students should be prepared to take the exam before registering. Contact Student Services for a registration form and approval form verifying you need the credit. Complete registrations (form and fee) need to be received or postmarked by the first working day of the month in which the exam is to be taken. Send all registrations to Student Services. Late registrations will not be accepted. If registrations come in after the deadline (defined as the end of an opportunity, not the beginning) they will be applied to the following test cycle. DANTES testing will occur every other month at each campus. Test dates are posted at each campus. DANTES testing takes place in a bulk testing on about the third Saturday of the month. Check campus calendars for specific dates.

How do I prepare for the exam?

Students should be prepared to take the exam before registering for it. These are comprehensive final exams and thus two to three textbooks on the subject should be used as a basis for studying. Basic practice tests or more direct information on the exams can be obtained from the DANTES Web site, http://www.getcollegecredit.com/materials.htm.
