Cavalier's balanced attack prevails over UVA-Wise

The Cavaliers again showed why playing in McAlister Gymnasium isn't a favorite stop for many AAC teams. They utilized a balanced offense and hit the boards hard as they defeated UVA-Wise, 88-70. Leading the way with points was Junior forward, MJ Nkoku (Rochester, NY). Njoku's 21 points led all scorers in the game, though it was Kinard Barnett (Sr., Charlotte, NC) who had an all-around stellar night as he dished in 17 points, earned four assists, and pulled down six important defensive rebounds. Other standout performances came from Timothy Harper's (So., Conover, NC) 11 points off a perfect 2-for-2 from the 3-point line and 3-for-4 from the charity stripe. Senior Aaron Collazo (Asheville, NC) also shined in the win by contributing 11 points as well, with two assists and one steal.

Montreat led at the halfway mark 29-37, and never looked back as they went on to score 51 points in the second half.  The Cavaliers also won the rebounding battle, 31-19, allowing them to earn 12 points off second chance rebounds.

Montreat will continue play as they hit the road against Tennessee Wesleyan at 4:00pm this Saturday, February 16th.

The AAC Women's and Men's Championship Tournament has been recently set for the Viking Hall Civic Center in Bristol, TN.  This is set as a 20-team (10 men's and 10 women's) single elimination format.  The first game is scheduled to be played February 27th.  Tickets for the tournament will be $8.00 for general admission and $6.00 for students (with ID).
