Lady Cavaliers' team effort prevails over Bluefield, 67-59
The Lady Cavaliers used a well-balanced offensive attack to defeat Bluefield College last night, 67-59. Montreat trailed by five at the half, 28-23, before taking control down the stretch. "This was a great come-from-behind win," said Coach Jackson, "we had six out of seven players in double figures... it was a great team victory tonight, especially to come from behind, and on the road." Montreat was led in scoring again by Kim Staley (Fr., Rutherfordton, NC) with 14 points, including a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Sophomore forward Kera Bryant (Jacksonville, FL) also had a solid all-around game with 12 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Bryant shot 5-for-9 from the field.
It was in fact the free throw line that played a huge part in Montreat's win, as the Lady Cavaliers hit 18-of-24, making nine more free throws than Bluefield. Montreat also shot 41% from the line, while holding Bluefield to only 33%. Other double digit contributors were: Whitney Mace (12), Janel Cox (11), and Tahjma Gabriel (10).
The Lady Cavs enter their final regular season game with a 13-15 overall record, and 6-11 in the AAC. Montreat will conclude their regular season at home, Senior Night at McAlister, against Milligan College this Saturday; game time is scheduled for 5:30pm.
