Softball splits doubleheader against Mountain State University
The Lady Cavs split a pair of games with Mountain State University yesterday, 5-8 and 12-11. Leading Montreat in game one was Erin Cross (Morganton, NC) and Amy Vogel (Hays, NC). "I felt Erin and Vogel played extremely well, especially when we needed them to," said Coach Duvall. Cross and Vogel both went 2-for-4 at the plate. Mary Montgomery also had a great game, going 1-for-2 with two walks, a pair of stolen bases, and a triple. Montreat went on to lose the first game of the series, 5-8.
Game two however would have a different ending. Montreat would scatter 15 hits to give Lacy Robinson (Huntersville, NC) a 12-11 win over MSU. Montreat would continue to leave base runners on the bases, as they left 11 stranded Lady Cavaliers in game two.
Montreat received plenty of fire power off the bats of Kerby Barkdoll (Fletcher, NC), Morgan Mills (Waynesville, NC), Erin Cross, and Amy Vogel; they would combine for 12 hits, and one home run (Vogel).
"We were really proud of the girls this game," said Coach Duvall. "They played hard the entire seven innings."
The softball team continues action today, Friday, February 29th, against Chowen University. The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 2:00pm.
