Air Quality Expert to Speak at Montreat College

Bill Jackson, an Air Quality Specialist for the US Forest Service, will be speaking at Montreat College about new findings regarding ozone and sulfate pollution in Western North Carolina on Monday, March 31, at 7:00 p.m. in Gaither Fellowship Hall.

This is part of the Natural Sciences Lecture Series.  Mr. Jackson is considered an expert on air quality issues in Western North Carolina and has been instrumental in coordinating agreements between industry, government, and individuals regarding air quality regulation and compliance through the Southern Appalachian Mountain Initiative (SAMI).

Jackson also oversees research into the effect of ozone on plant health, as well as research on atmospheric sulfates and their effect on visibility (haze) issues in WNC.  Mr. Jackson will explain why visibility in WNC is worse in the summer months and will outline steps individuals can take to combat this problem.  Mr. Jackson is an engaging speaker with an ability to make scientific information both accessible and interesting.
