Baseball takes two from Virginia Intermont
Montreat moved into 2nd place in the AAC race by taking two games from Virginia Intermont, 5-3 and 2-1. In game one, Montreat was led by Seth Blevins’ stellar pitching. He came in for starter John Shannon and pitched five shutout innings with five strikeouts to get the win. Offensively, Brent Ashbaugh went 2-4 and Steven Hoyle went 2-4 with a huge two run RBI double to tie the score at three apiece. Jesse wise had a key single in the seventh to break the tie and have the game winning RBI.
Garrett Jones got the start for game two and pitched great throwing four innings though he received no run support and gave way to Brian Greene, who came in and got the win throwing 2 and 2/3 innings and striking out 4 and only allowing one earned run. Montreat scored both runs in the top of the sixth with RBI singles by Chad Dawkins and Jesse Wise. Dawkins led the effort with two hits in four trips to the plate. Montreat now stands at 18-7 and 3-1 in the conference.
