Men's Soccer Over Florida Southern 4-1

Montreat College men’s soccer team picks up their second victory of the season on Saturday in the final game of their Florida trip; they knocked off Florida Southern 4-1 in a hostile environment. The weather coming in as a result of hurricane “Gustav” caused wet conditions for the match. Montreat got on top, one to nothing, on a Shaka Bangura (JR, Freetown, Sierra Leone) goal with an assist from Sami Bin (SO, Porto Alegre, Brazil) in the 33rd minute of play. In the second half, just ten minutes in, [Shaka] Bangura nets his second goal of the contest, off an assist from Nyron Edwards (JR, Kingston, Jamaica), to place Montreat up 2-0. In the 63rd minute, Adnan Bangura (SO, Freetown, Sierra Leone) gets one past the Florida Southern keeper with assists from Abdul Bangura (JR, Freetown, Sierra Leone) and Shaka Bangura.

Then in the 71st minute, Shaka Bangura completes the “hat trick” by netting his third goal of the match on assists from Josef Yehia (SO, Orlando, FL) and Craig Wilson (SO, Trinidad & Tobago) to give the Cavs a 4-0 cushion. Florida Southern got their only goal in the 81st minute to make a 4-1 final.

Chad Britts commented on the match saying, “We looked and played really well. Howard [Fisher] (JR, Kingston, Jamaica) had four big saves for us. We also controlled the possession of the ball really well all game.”

Montreat goes to 2-1 on the season and returns home but plays their next five games on the road, before returning home on September 27th. Their next game will be at North Greenville on September 3rd in a 5pm start.
