Requirements for International Students

Requirements for Coming to Montreat from Outside the US

Montreat College is authorized to grant I-20's for the purposes of obtaining an F-1 student visa only.  In order to receive an F-1 visa you must be planning to study full time.

International applicants must be a graduate of a secondary school system or the equivalent and must have sufficient proficiency in the English language so they are able to study at the college level.

International students entering the College of Arts and Sciences must submit:

  • A nonrefundable application fee of $30.00 (USD)
  • A one page essay on the topic "How I will enhance the quality and spirit of a Christ-centered, student-focused, service-driven college like Montreat". You may share about leadership skills, your school spirit, desire to learn new things, desire for service and/or ministry, etc.
  • A letter of recommendation from a missionary or an appropriate agency representative, or a headmaster or teacher. The individual submitting the recommendation must be English-speaking and able to verify the students English-speaking ability.
  • An official, translated transcript of secondary school record, preferably indicating class rank and GPA. Montreat College highly recommends, and in some instances requires, that the applicant use a transcript translation and evaluation service (such as World Education Services, WES) in order to determine international academic credentials.

International students who have lived in the United States for less than two years and/or have not graduated from an English-speaking school or who are currently living outside the United States must submit:

OBTAINING AN I-20 FORM
