Copy Editor and Staff Writer

Summary

This 12-month, full-time, exempt position serves as a member of the Communications Office and reports to the Director of Communications and Sports Information. Supports the internal and external communication efforts of the college, including branding, sports information, media relations, marketing, and public relations.

Major Duties 

  • Edits and proofs copy for all college publications, including Reflection magazine twice annually, copy for the Web site, and copy for printed marketing materials. 
    Writes press releases as needed.
  • Coordinates advertising efforts and development of ads for enrollment marketing, auxiliary services marketing, and general marketing.
  • Serves as editor for all media for external constituents produced by the Communications Office or by other departments (including the Web site, e-mail distributions to prospective students and to alumni, and any mass print materials) to ensure consistency in quality, relevance, content, and appearance.
  • Approves all uses of the college logos and other graphic representations to ensure brand consistency.
  • Maintains the newspaper clipping archive.
  • Supports Communications Office initiatives and completes other duties as assigned by the Director.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience in a higher education setting and editing or proofreading experience preferred.
  • Experience in project management, Web development, and/or marketing a plus.
