Database Administrator/Analyst

Summary

The Database Administrator/Analyst is responsible for designing, implementing, administering and monitoring the enterprise database environment including Microsoft Access, MySQL, PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server 2000/2005.

Duties

  • Designing, implementing, administering and monitoring college wide SQL database environment 
  • Managing all SQL Server based applications, including the College’s website, PowerCAMPUS, Raiser’s Edge, PowerFAIDS, Moodle
  • Managing MySQL and PostGres installations
  • Maintain key MS Access databases
  • Manage database/application security
  • Optimize databases for performance.
  • Administer database backup/restore.
  • Implement disaster mitigation/recovery strategy.
  • Manage backup/recovery strategy for all database servers.
  • Performing various duties outside of SQL such as general system administration, scripting and some web development
  • Assist with working helpdesk tickets and helping end users with various technical issues
  • Performs other job related duties as necessary

Supervision

This person works under the supervision of the Chief Information Officer.

Education/ Experience

  • Minimum of Bachelors degree, Information Systems degree preferred.
  • Five years experience in database administration and technical support.

Skills

  • Strong working knowledge of database administration.
  • Strong working knowledge of SQL queries and transactions.
  • Excellent communication skills needed for providing support to Faculty, Staff and Students.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, by gathering and analyzing information skillfully and developing alternative solutions.
