Dr. Dan Struble, President

Dan Struble is the seventh president of Montreat College; he began his tenure April 22, 2004. He is a 1983 graduate of the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland. He served in the Navy and Navy Reserve for 21 years, retiring as a Commander following active duty service in the Middle East during Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan. He earned his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Southern California (USC) in Comparative Politics and American Politics respectively, where he focused on the area of presidential leadership and decision-making.

In higher education administration, Dan has focused his efforts on institution building. At Occidental College, he was acting director of major and planned giving during its successful $65 million campaign. At the U.S. Naval Academy, he founded the Naval Academy Foundation, which increased funds raised annually from $5 million to over $30 million, and co-designed its successful $250 million campaign.

Dan has taught or lectured at USC, Occidental College, and the Naval Postgraduate School. He has prepared curriculum for the Naval War College, served as an analyst for its Global War Games, and published numerous articles in the Naval War College Review and Shipmate.
