Ashley Craig Interns in DC - Week 5

Montreat Communication Major, Ashley Craig, gets security clearance and begins work for the Department of Homeland Security as part of the CCCU American Studies Program

Hey Montreat!
Well, its been a great week! I got my security clearance and I sat down at my first board meeting with DHS (Department of Homeland Security)! It was interesting but I did not have a clue what they were talking about most of the time. Dan Sutherland, he is in charge of the Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Office, spoke with me after the meeting. It was intense. He asked a lot of questions, and I answered the best I could. I believe I did ok. I have been working on some things for the DHS website, and I am helping create some new brochures for the department.

My classes are going well. We have the project due in a few weeks so we are all trying to get that done. We do not have as much time anymore to explore the city, but Rachel and I found this nice little restaurant called Bread and Chocolate. We ate dinner there and they had chocolate fondue! It was amazing. Also here is a picture of Rachel and me on our way to the McCain Campaign Headquarters in Crystal City.

They have these airplanes all over the city. They are fun. We watched the vice-presidential debates. It was hard not to say anything while the candidates were talking. We all laughed when Palin said "Say it isn't so Joe". None of us were expecting that. That is all I have for this week!
