So you're ready to graduate?
What now? Follow these easy steps:
1. Meet with Advisor before registration / Review audit
Before registering for what may be your very last semester at Montreat, make sure you know everything you possibly can about your graduation requirements. The Records and Registration Office will have sent you a degree audit, representing these requirements. Meet with your advisor to double check that you will sign up for every one of your last requirements. Make sure you have:
- Completed all general education and major requirements (and no double counting classes!)
- 126 total hours
- 33 hours at the 300 level or above
- 18 hours completed at Montreat in your major (if you transferred in)
- All competencies completed
- Documentation of any exceptions granted
2. Apply for graduation!
This is the first and easiest step toward obtaining your diploma. There are three different graduation conferral times a year, which means three different deadlines.
- If you plan on graduating in May, you must apply before March 1st.
- If you plan on graduating in August, you must apply before June 1st.
- If you plan on graduating in December, you must apply before October 1st.
Applications take only a moment to complete, but are absolutely vital to graduation. You can either print out the form found right here on the website, or simpy walk to the Records and Registration Office to find one just outside the door!
3. Complete Graduation Packet Materials
Once you have applied for graduation, a packet of graduation materials (many seen to the left) will be sent to you mid-March. This packet contains details for the Commencement ceremony, as well as details on how to order your diploma, and a check-list of things to take care of before you leave Montreat. Some of these documents are time sensitive, so make sure to submit them back to the Records and Registration Office as soon as you can!
4. Communicate!
Once your application for graduation has been submitted, the Records and Registration Office will begin to work on your final graduation audit. Make sure to let the Office know of any changes to your application, any requirements that you plan on completing after the commencement ceremony, any PLA credit to submit, or any CLEP or DANTES tests that you plan on taking to supplement missing requirements. If you find yourself missing anything, talk to the Records and Registration Office A.S.A.P. to discuss possible ways to meet requirements before deadlines. We are here to help you in any way we can!
5. Commencement Ceremony
Once you have successfully completed all of your requirements, and have been certified to participate in the ceremony through the Records and Registration Office, you can finally attend Montreat College Commencement! This ceremony takes place twice a year: Once in December, and once in May. Commencement takes place in Lower Anderson Auditorium at 2:00pm for each ceremony.
