The Montreat College Golf Program kicked off their 2008 fall season with their co-host tournament with Brevard on Sunday. The men's team had a rough start on Sunday shooting a team total of 320 for ninth place. Junior transfer Nathan Blankenship performed well sharing first place with a score of 71. After day one, the women's team claimed second place with a score of 403 behind Mars Hill (354). Junior Ashley Mitcham led the way for the Lady Cavs with a score of 98. Read More


The 2008 Montret College Spring Invitational Golf Tournament wrapped up yesterday at Crooked Creek Golf Course in Hendersonville, NC with Brevard College men (588) and Spartanburg Methodist women (698) taking first place respecitively. Read More


Coach David Pennell's Cavaliers had a solid day on the links yesterday in the opening round of the Spring Invitational at Crooked Creek Golf Course in Hendersonville, NC. Though the men are unable to field a team score, Cory Howard and Sean Mcaig both fired 80's in the opening round. Currently in the men's division, Union College (KY) leads the tournament with 297. On the women's side, Spartanburg Methodist sits alone in first place with a team total 346. Ashley Mitchem leads the third place Lady Cavs (407) with a opening round of 95. Read More


After winning last year's NAIA Region XII championship with the Lady Cavalier golf team, Coach David Pennell is wasting no time in poising his men's team to go after the same title. Coach Pennell and Montreat College are proud to announce the signing of James Island High School star, Joe Balliet. Balliet hails from Charleston, SC, and will bring his 3.7 handicap and 76 stroke average to Montreat this upcoming fall. "Joe's a great addition for us," says Coach Pennell, "he's demonstrated great leadership as his team's captain and most valuable player. I believe he has tremendous promise, as well as a great shot at a state championship run in his final year." Read More


Montreat’s Lady Cavs finished 2nd in this weekend’s Spartanburg Methodist College Fall Golf Tournament. Leading the Lady Cavs was sophomore Ashley Mitcham. Mitcham’s two day total 191 (92-99) was good enough for 5th place overall. “I am very pleased with the ladies thus far,” said Coach Dave Pennell, “Looking at our results from this past spring up to this fall’s season, I feel we are ahead of where I thought we would be. We still have to work hard this winter to prepare to defend our NAIA Region XII championship.” The Spartanburg Methodist Tournament ended the fall golf season for the Lady Cavaliers. From last Spring trough this Fall, the Lady Cavaliers have finished 7 tournaments with a record of 1- first place finish, 5- second place finishes, and 1- fourth place finish. Their record for the 2007 Fall season is 6-3. With the second place finish at Spartanburg Methodist, the Lady Cavaliers are the #1 ranked team in Region XII of the NAIA. Read More


The Lady Cavalier Golf Team finished day one of the Spartanburg Methodist Golf Invitational in second place. Host SMC is currently in first with a first day score of 362. Montreat's first day total of 375 was good enough to lead Mars Hill and Louisburg College. The tournament is being held at the Cleghorn Golf Plantation in Rutherfordton, NC.
