Women's Soccer Comes From Behind to Edge Toccoa Falls

Montreat women’s soccer team had a good battle and test against Toccoa Falls College on Saturday afternoon. Toccoa falls jumped out to an early 1-0 lead and maintained that lead for the whole first period. Montreat started out a little timid; but, turned up the heat in the second half by tying the game on a Lucy White (JR, Northport, AL) goal off a Rebekah Worley (SO, Raleigh, NC) assist. Then with 15 minutes left to play in the match, Stephanie Liles (FR, Morganton, NC) nets her first goal of the season off a Brittany Zachrich (FR, Hickory, NC) assist to give Montreat the lead for good. Very good defensive play clinched the game for the Lady Cavs giving them a 2-1 victory in the contest.

Coach Maples spoke highly of his teams play after the game, “We showed great determination in the second half, to be down and come back like we did. I haven’t got to see that from the team yet. I got to see what kind of heart and fight these girls have. In the first half we struggled, we didn’t keep our shape, and we rushed things. At half time we talked about shape, patience, and not to rush. We came out in the second half and executed and came away with a hard fought victory. Toccoa Falls also played a great game; they showed good sportsmanship the whole contest.”

The Lady Cavs go to 2-0 on the season and will travel to Southern Wesleyan on Wed. September 3rd (7pm start time), and will return home on Sat. September 6th vs. Atlanta Christian in a 5pm start.
