Montreat Volleyball Falls Victim to Southern Wesleyan Attack

The season opener for the Montreat College Lady Cavalier volleyball team did not go according to plan. Southern Wesleyan came in to McAlister Gymnasium Thursday night with experience and confidence, but the Lady Cavs did not go down without a fight. Young and inexperienced, the Lady Cavs kept fighting to make SWU work for every point they got. Sophomore Allie Baumgartner (Charlotte, NC)led the way for Montreat with 14 kills and 6 blocks, followed by freshman Natalie Nieman (Charlotte, NC)with 7 digs and 14 assists.

Coach Mooberry had some good things to say despite the frustrating loss, “Natalie stepped up for us today and Allie Bea had a solid game as well. Both girls displayed great leadership.” Both Coach Mooberry and Allie Baumgartner stated, “This game just shows us the areas that we need to improve on.”

The Lady Cavaliers are back in action Saturday, August 30th in a quad match right here at McAlister Gymnasium. The Lady Cavs will be on the court at 9am, 5pm, and at 7pm, but the action will go on throughout the day with games at 11am, 1pm, and 3pm. The other competition for Montreat will be Shawnee State University, Brevard College, and Reinhardt College. Come out and watch the action!
